Rakhine State formerly Arakan, 14,200 Square Miles (36.762 Sq km), west myanmar extending along the Bay of Bengal. It lies at the foot of the Arakan mountain range, which rises to 10,016 ft (3, 053m) at Mount Victoria. The capital is sittwe. The Arakanese or Rakhine who are of Burmese stock with strong Indian influences are mostly engaged in intension rice cultivation, they are Buddhists. All products from Rakhine can be found at the Myoma Market in the town of sittwe such as salted fish and dried fish paste. The Thandwe market is also popular. The port is located at Pon Nar Island. In Myauk Oo town, the popular markets are Nyaungbin market, Ngachauk market and Ahlae (Middle) market.
