Situated at the confluence of two rivers – May Kah and Ma Li Kha. Throughout the year one experiences heavy fog. It boasts the highest Mount Hkakaborazi. There are also other mountains such as Hpone Kan Razi for trekking tours. Also famous for jade and gold deposits. The largest lake, Indaw Gyi lake is situated in the region. One can enjoy the ever popular Ma Naw Pwe (festival).
The capital city is Myitkyina. The Kachin Manaw Festival is also another interesting culture of the ethnic groups of Myanmar. The festival is held to coincide with the State Day in January.

Due to the year round cold weather conditions, it is advisable to carry appropriate medication for colds and warm clothing. Travelling is tedious during the rainy season. Best time for travel is during the summer months. It is important to get good advice before travelling to the restricted areas.
