Tanintharyi Division, is an administrative region of Myanmar, covering the long narrow southern part of the country on the Kra Isthmus. It borders the Andaman Sea to the west and the Tenasserim Hills, beyond which lies Thailand, to the east. To the north is the Mon State. There are many islands off the coast, the large Mergui Archipelago in the southern and central coastal areas and the smaller Moscos Islands off the northern shores. The capital of the division is Dawei (Tavoy). Other important cities are Myeik (Mergui) and Kawthaung. The division covers an area of 43,344.9 km², and had a population of 1,406,434 at the 2014 Census.The Municipality Market (City Hall), is situated at the Dawei ‘s Arzani Road and Zayit Township. Mingalar Market is located at the rear end of Arzani road.The Bayintnaung and Myo Ma markets are located at the Kawthaung Town’s Canal Road, Annwa Road. The Seit Nge townships. Silk textiles can be found in the towns. The best brand is known as Pohsit longyi. The main consumable commodity is the Myeik fish paste. Also, in abundance are dried fish and prawns available in the market place.
Travel is accessible by road, rail and air. Although road transportation is not very conducive, however places of interest should be visited.Yetsal island is noted for gold deposits. Thiri Myaing, 3rd mile resort and Pachan River are recommended places to visit. There are 2 islands strictly prohibited to foreign travellers namely Zardat and Pearl Islands.The Myeik Archipelago is inhabited by the Salone tribes and yearly there are festivals and events to visit this place. Diving trips can also be arranged.Kawthaung is the southern most point of Myanmar and the border check point to enter Thailand.
